Light & Life: Painting the Figure in Watercolor

Starting with a focus on gesture and the mechanics of structural anatomical drawing, participants will apply sound drawing skill to more developed portrayal of the figure in watercolor. Moving beyond carrot people, this workshop will focus on depicting the gesture of people doing every day activities. Getting the proportions and action for the figure properly placed in your painting makes such a difference in the narrative. We will start with the basics of working from life and capturing the gesture, body type, color, light, and shadow and how to keep the focal point of your work focused on the figure. We will also work on portraiture and discuss the portrayal of fabric folds. (Previously called "Figure Academy for Adults")

You can find our required supply list above next to teen/adult workshops.
