Kids Summer Camps:

This is the Place Art Camp - Session 1: June 10-14

Join us as we take art to This is the Place Park and sketch pioneer-era architecture, gardens, and people in period costume. We will use several mediums, including: pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, markers, and ink. This is a great time to learn new art techniques while spending time outdoors and learning about Utah's history. You will need to come prepared with a water bottle, sunscreen (already applied), hat, and small folding chair.

Color Blast Art Camp: June 10-14

If you love color, you'll love this class!  Spend a week experimenting with color in many different forms.  We will be working mixed media (colored pencils, pastels, watercolors, bakeable clay, and markers. ). We'll be mixing them all together to make some fabulous works of art. We'll end by tie dying tee shirts! Come ready to experiment and get a little dirty.

Cartooning Art Camp: June 17-21

Learn the basics of cartooning focusing on the action line, gesture, expression, features, colors, textures, and values. We will assign traits for the cartoon character, and then design original cartoons with those traits. Kids will tap into their imaginations by coming up with names and titles for their own comic masterpieces.

Open Air Watercolor In the Park: June 17-21

Kids will learn how to mix & blend colors, apply washes, and learn the basic techniques of watercolor all while soaking in the beauty of Sugarhouse park. Come prepared with a water bottle, hat, sunscreen (applied) and small foldable chair.

Drawing Safari at the Hogle Zoo Session 1: June 24-28

Join us as we take art to the Zoo! We'll set-up our drawing boards to sketch zoo animals and their habitats. Natural History Museum Art Camp: July 22-26*

Join us as we take art to the Natural History Museum of Utah. We will meet on location and will set-up our drawing boards to sketch dinosaurs, gems, geology, and much more. We will use several mediums, including: pencil, charcoal, pastel, watercolor, markers, and ink. This is a great time to learn new art techniques and learn about Utah's ancient history.

Teen & Adult Workshops:

Intro to Game Development*: July 29- August 2

Learn the basics of video game development-- including animation, storyline, and drawing-- in this new summer internship for teens and adults. Students will get the opportunity to work on a game that will launch this fall! Beginner level. Zero experience of coding needed. Knowledge of drawing ideal, but not required.

Figure Academy for Teens: Session 1 July 1-12; Session 2 July 15-27

Figure Academy is an intensive two-week workshop in which students will draw and paint from models for a collective 90 hours. Students will study figure drawing in the morning and figure painting in the afternoon. Daily in-depth critiques help students engage in each other's work and give students personal direction for successive studies. Students are exposed to the works of contemporary figurative artists through presentations and will develop new skills and strong artwork for their portfolios. 

Dates: July 1-12 (We will not meet on July 4th, but will meet on Saturday, July 6). July 15-27 (We will not meet on July 24, but will meet on Saturday July 27)

Time: 9 AM – 6 PM

Price: $600 + $45 supply fee

Figure academy for adults: July 29-August 2

Figure Academy is an intensive one-week workshop in which students will draw and paint (watercolor) from models. Students will study figure drawing in the morning and figure painting in the afternoon. Daily in-depth critiques help students engage in each other's work and give students personal direction for successive studies. Students are exposed to the works of contemporary figurative artists through presentations and will develop new skills.

Price: $350 + $35 materials fee 

Materials: VAI will provide some materials and a Figure Academy Notebook, but students will be responsible for most of their own supplies (please check the website for the materials list).
