Carlissa Shaw

Instructor

Carlissa Shaw is an Artist, Printmaker, and Educator living in Salt Lake City.

She was very adamant as a child that she wanted to be an artist when she grew up, and began taking classes at the Visual Art Institute starting at age twelve. She attended VAI's Figure Academy religiously! You can read about Carlissa’s experience as a student at VAI by visiting our “Alumni Stories” page.

Carlissa attended Salt Lake Community College where she received her Associates of Science degree, as well as falling in love with Printmaking after taking a newly offered Introductory class. She then attended the University of Utah to study and receive her Bachelors of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Printmaking.

Carlissa began to work at the Visual Art Institute in 2017. In her time with the Visual Art Institute, she has taken on a variety of roles including Administrative Assistance, Gallery Proprietor, Instructor, and now Program Coordinator. She is best recognized as the "Intro to Art" teacher and loves teaching the littles throughout the year including summer camps!

In 2020 Carlissa was offered an opportunity to work as an Adjunct Professor at Salt Lake Community College. Since then, she has been teaching Creative Printmaking, the same class in which she had once been a student.

Carlissa is excited about the opportunity to build a Printmaking Studio, a curriculum of Printmaking courses, as well as her own Printmaking Practice, at the Visual Art Institute.
