A summer photography session for High school students. Work from current students as well as graduates of the VAI are displayed on the walls.

Spring 2008 Semester
These classes begin the week of April 21st and end the week of June 26th
Each class is once a week from 4:30-6:00 p.m.
Tuition is $190.00 per 10-week class.
Studio Arts I - Elementary
We strongly encourage new VAI elementary age students to take the Intro to Drawing class their first semester. After completing this course students choose a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday that best accommodate family schedules. The other classes will rotate to that same day throughout the year. Supplies are provided for Elementary students.

Drawing I (Intro to Drawing) with Anna Winslow
Suggested for first time students of VAI. Children will learn the basic concepts and techniques of making art through drawing. They will explore line, shape, value, texture, color, form, unity, variety and composition while learning to draw what they see. They will apply these developing skills into drawings from their imagination. Students will begin developing the skills to talk about their art through class discussions and critiques. |

Graphics (Photoshop) with Bobby Robertson
Students will learn basic digital still camera usage, photo editing, computer input, composition, and basic Adobe Photoshop tools to draw and manipulate photos with the computer. Learning to use Photoshop to manipulate images will introduce a new challenge helping them to rely on their creative intuition. Learning the basic tools of Photoshop will expand what they see as potential for creative expression. |
Wednesday

Animation (Flipbook) with Heidi Somsen
Students will learn the basic principles of script outlining, basic storyboarding, character development, and time-line composition. They will also learn to develop their own ideas from planning stages to a finished short animated flipbook. This class will teach the students to create multiple images that will correspond in animated sequences. Learning animation will help them to glimpse the basic process related to the animation industry. |
Thursday

Drawing (Pen & Ink/Wash) with Laura Paustenbaugh
Students will create drawings using traditional Japanese drawing tools, steel nibs, brushes and alternative tools. They will develop their mark making skills by learning a broad range of ink drawing techniques. These drawings will bridge to the development of painting skills. Students will discover a new spatial awareness and sensitivity in their drawings, giving them greater command of their compositions and new options for creative ingenuity. |
