BEST ART START
Visual Art Institute
Are you weary of washing your children's magic-marker drawings off the wall? Remember, when the student is ready, the art institute will appear. Founded in 1978, the nonprofit Visual Art Institute is the place for kids who love to draw, from the ages of 5 to 18. Offering after-school and summer classes in drawing, acrylic and oil painting, ceramics, comic-book illustration, mixed-media pop-up books, intaglio printmaking and more, students build portfolios they can use to pursue university admittance and scholarships. Not all artists eat their paint and slice off their ears: These kids have it goin' on.

VAI alumnae reaps successes
VAI alumnae Rebecca Campbell is featured as the Critic's Pick in the April 2006 issue of Artnews. She has had two successful solo exhibitions at the LA Louver Gallery in Los Angeles and will be having her first solo show in New York later this year. Congratulations Rebecca!

VAI Exhibitions
The high School students of VAI have been invited to create an exhibition of their work at the Kimball Art Center in Park City. The opening for the month long exhibition will be April 29th. We have 20 students participating in this exhibition. This is an honor for VAI to be invited to participate at this level. We want to thank our high school students for setting such a high standard of excellence.

There is still time to see the current exhibition of student work at the East Millcreek Library. Currently 24 students have work represented in this show. Patrons of the library have commented that this is the best show in recent memory.

Target partners with VAI in this year's Children's Art Yard
Target Stores is this year's sponsor of the Children's Art Yard at the Utah Arts Festival. Target has selected VAI to be its partner in producing the main art activity for the festivities. This year's theme is "Everything Round" VAI will come up with a concept for the activity that utilizes the Target logo. The Utah Arts Festival will be held at Library Square June 22-25. It is expected that nearly 5,000 children will participate in the activities. We will need lots of volunteers this year as we will be doing a separate activity booth in the Art Yard and we will be running the PB&J booth again. This is a good opportunity to put in your volunteer hours. We appreciate all of your support.
