Gallery Goings On: GARFO   • Download

Catalyst Magazine highlights the Visual Art Institutes' recent progress with the Garfo Art Center at the old Garfield schoolhouse. "This building has so much history, but not many people know what's going on inside of it now," says Despain. "The GARFO Gallery is going to invite community members inside to meet the teachers, artists, and students here, and explore our space," adds Riches.

Salt Lake City Weekly held it's Arty Awards evening to celebrate Utahís art community. VAI received the Staff Choice Award "Best Early-Immersion Art Program."

Class Act - Drawing Figures  • Download
VAI's Figure Academy is very unique chance for students to develop a portfolio of figure drawings and paintings. This intensive workshop is taught similar to a college class. Students' skills go from A to Z in a couple of days. Visit Figure Academy for more details.

Faculty Member in Finch Lane Art Show  • Download
VAI faculty Lenka Konopasek paintings are on display at the Finch Lane Gallery. Her series is based on computer-manipulated photographs depicting natural disasters and war images from recent human conflicts. The show runs until May 30th.

Art Student Wins Visual Arts State Sterling Scholar  • Download
VAI student Jan Voitehovich received the State Sterling Scholar Award in Visual Arts. He also received many other awards for his artwork and academics. He received a full tuition scholarship to Cooper Union in New York City, where he will be attending this fall. Congratulations Jan! VAI students created artwork from their imagination. This exhibit is scheduled in conjunction with the Casjens / Jacoby exhibits in the Finch Lane Gallery, including a reception for the artists on Friday, Jan. 11, 6:00-8:00 p.m. show ends Feb. 22.

VAI Alumnus Reaps Successes  • Download
VAI alumnae Rebecca Campbell is featured as the Critic's Pick in the April 2006 issue of Artnews. She has had two successful solo exhibitions at the LA Louver Gallery in Los Angeles and will be having her first solo show in New York later this year.
